Safety & Trust
Informed choice, not fear.
SenSignal tells you what is known about a network and what isn’t, calmly and with the evidence.
What SenSignal can verify
- Whether a SenSignal-managed hotspot’s identity and health checks are current
- Whether a venue owner confirmed a listing, and when
- When the community last confirmed a network worked
What it can’t
- The security of networks SenSignal doesn’t manage
- That any public network is completely safe. None can be.
- That a network is legitimate just because of its name
Fake and stale hotspots
Using the SenSignal name
If a network calls itself SenSignal but can’t be matched to a trusted node, the app labels it unverified and warns you.
Out of date
When a SenSignal hotspot’s checks go stale, it stops showing as verified until they resume.
Revoked
If SenSignal stops trusting a hotspot, the app shows it muted and won’t help you connect to it.
Staying safer on any public Wi‑Fi
- Prefer apps and websites that use encryption (look for https and the lock icon).
- Check the network name with staff or venue signs before joining.
- Be cautious entering personal or payment details on a sign-in page you didn’t expect.
- Turn off file sharing and automatic joining of unknown networks.
- Keep your device’s software up to date.
Report a problem
In the app, open any hotspot and tap Report, or use Profile → Contribute. Reports are reviewed and combined, so one report can’t rewrite a listing by itself. For urgent security concerns, see Contact.
